Staff Software Engineer
About this role
About Turing
Turing’s mission is to accelerate superintelligence to drive real economic progress. Headquartered in San Francisco, Turing works with frontier AI labs to generate high-quality datasets, reinforcement learning environments, and frontier research benchmarks that improve model capabilities in software engineering, enterprise knowledge work, and advanced STEM reasoning. In software engineering, Turing is the largest and longest-running data provider in the category. Turing also works with Fortune 500 enterprises across financial services, life sciences, healthcare, retail, automotive, and CPG to build and deploy end-to-end agentic AI systems inside mission-critical workflows. By operating on both sides, Turing closes the loop between frontier research and enterprise deployment, turning real-world deployment signals into better data, evaluations, and more capable models. Staff Engineer
Location: Bangalore, India · In-office · Hybrid Experience: 8–12 years
About the Role
We're looking for a Staff Engineer to set technical direction across multiple services and teams. You'll be a force multiplier — driving architecture, raising engineering standards, leading complex cross-team initiatives, and mentoring senior engineers. This is a senior IC role for a deeply technical engineer who shapes how the organization builds software and whose design judgment others adopt.
What You'll Do
- Drive architecture and technical direction across multiple services and teams.
- Lead complex, cross-cutting initiatives — migrations, modernization, and platform/system evolution.
- Own reliability and performance at scale; make high-leverage engineering decisions and tradeoffs.
- Raise engineering standards through design docs, standards, and reviews that others adopt.
- Mentor senior engineers and influence technical strategy beyond a single team.
- Partner with engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders on technical roadmaps.
What We're Looking For
- 8–12 years of software engineering experience with a track record of technical leadership.
- Experience driving architecture and technical direction across multiple services or teams.
- Cross-team influence: platform/system evolution and raising engineering standards.
- Deep distributed systems and cloud-native architecture expertise; strong engineering judgment.
- Demonstrated impact on multi-team technical direction, migrations/modernization, and reliability/performance.
- A history of mentoring senior engineers and producing standards and design docs that others adopt.
- A degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related engineering field is preferred but not required — we weight work outcomes most heavily.
Nice to Have
- AI platform architecture experience.
- Agentic systems / LLM infrastructure experience.

Advantages of joining Turing
- Work at the frontier of AI, helping the world’s leading AI labs improve their most advanced models by building expert datasets, RL environments, and first-of-a-kind benchmarks.
- Contribute to leading-edge AI research and showcase your work at top conferences such as ICLR, ICML, and NeurIPS.
- Bring frontier AI innovation to the enterprise, applying lessons learned from leading AI labs to solve real-world business challenges.
- Collaborate with and learn from exceptional colleagues with deep AI experience from Google, Meta, Amazon, and other leading technology companies.
- Move at the pace of AI innovation, with the speed, ownership, and impact of a startup.
